Learn how to use the Segments feature to create subscriber segments based on conditions, save them for future use, and reuse conditions to streamline your workflows.

What Are Segments?

Segments are customizable collections of conditions that allow you to group subscribers based on specific data attributes within your Tatango instance.

Once you've created a segment, you can save it for future use. This eliminates the need to recreate targeting criteria for every message, saving you time and ensuring consistent, efficient messaging across campaigns.

Steps to Create a Segment

  1. Create a new message:

    • Select your desired list.

    • Click Create New Message.

  2. Define Conditions:

    • Under Recipients, select Segmented List.

    • Add your desired targeting conditions.

  3. Save the Segment:

    • Save the segment by clicking Save As Segment.

    • Name your segment (e.g., "Lapsed Donors").

    • Confirm by clicking Save As Segment to store it for future use.

Steps to Add an Existing Segment to a Message

  1. Create a new message:

    • Select your desired list.

    • Click Create New Message.

  2. Reusing Saved Conditions:

    • Under Recipients, select Segmented List.

    • Then select Add Segments

    • Choose the Segments you'd like to apply.

  3. Select Application Type

    • Choose either Apply as a Segment or Conditions Only.

Example Segments:

Middle Donors:

  • Donation count is less than or equal to 5

  • Donation Total Amount is greater than or equal to $1,000

  • Donation Total Amount is less than or equal to $10,000

  • Donation Last Date is within the last 180 days

Lapsed Donors:

  • Donation count is greater than or equal to 1

  • Donation Total Amount is greater than $0

  • Donation Last Date is not within the last 12 months

Event Participants:

  • Past Participants 2024 is Unregistered

  • Tag is Event Participant 2022

  • OR Tag is Event Participant 2023

  • AND Event Date (Most Recent) is before 1/1/2024

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply multiple segments to a message?

  • Yes, you can apply multiple segments to a message. Select the first segment you want to apply, click Apply, then select Add Segments to apply additional segments.

Can I apply an "OR" operator between two segments?

  • Currently, "OR" operators are not supported between segments.

Can I delete a segment I no longer need?

  • Yes, you can delete a segment by going to Saved Segments and clicking Delete next to the segment you want to remove. Note: You cannot delete a segment if it’s being used in a scheduled or recurring message.

Can I apply a segment to a message and then add another condition to it?

  • Yes, after applying a segment, you can add additional conditions to further refine your targeting.
