Understanding how merge tags display in test messages is crucial for ensuring message accuracy before sending to your audience. Here's what to expect during testing:

  1. Non-Subscribers:

    • Test messages sent to mobile numbers not subscribed to your service will display the actual merge tag (e.g., {FIRST_NAME}) in the text.

  2. Subscribed with Data:

    • Existing subscribers who have provided their first name will see their actual name replace the {FIRST_NAME} merge tag.

  3. Subscribed without Data:

    • Existing subscribers who have not provided a first name will see a default fallback term, such as "Friend," or any custom fallback you set, in place of the {FIRST_NAME} merge tag.

This setup helps you verify that merge tags are working correctly and ensures that each subscriber receives a personalized experience, even when data is missing.
