Here at Tatango, we get one question more then any other from businesses and organizations using the website. That question is, why can’t I upload phone numbers to my Tatango campaign? Sounds like a legitimate question, we are a text message marketing website, and if you can’t add phone numbers to your campaign, how are you supposed to text message them?
The answer is to let people add themselves to the campaigns they wish to receive text message from (common sense huh?). To do this, Tatango gives each campaign a “Keyword”, which allows people to subscribe to your campaigns directly from their own mobile phones. Why is it so important to get people to subscribe to your campaign, rather than just uploading their mobile phone numbers?
IT'S THE LAW! Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), it's required that before you can send a text message to a mobile phone numbers through Tatango, a mobile phone number must first opt-in through our short code. Without this opt-in, you can be liable for up to $1,500 in damages for each wireless phone number that receives a text message. We do this not only because it's the only way we can verify a true opt-in, but it also helps us protect consumers from unwanted text message spam.
