Review the Custom Subdomain explanation here.

What is the difference between subdomain and domain?

  • Regular domains are your standard URLs like tatango.com or txting.io.

  • Subdomains are a unique URL that lives on your purchased domain as an extension in front of your regular domain like support.tatango.com or party.txting.io.

Is there any limitation on the length of the domain?

  • 253 characters is the maximum length of a full domain name, including dots: e.g. link.example.com = 16 characters.

  • 63 characters in the maximum length of a "label" (part of domain name separated by dot). Labels for link.example.com are com, example and www.

How long will it take to get my domain set up in Tatango?

CNAME record changes can take up to 72 hours to go into effect, but typically they happen much sooner - in just a few minutes.

What should I do if my verification fails?

Verify if the CNAME records are correctly created within your domain registrar. If the problem persists, get in touch with Tatango's customer service.

Can I use the same domain in Tatango as my website?

No. A full domain name must point to a single service or resource. If you already have your domain pointing to your website, you can't use it as your custom domain. However, you can use a subdomain.

If I modify my custom domain, what happens to scheduled messages that contain link tracking (txting.io)?

The custom domain is evaluated when your message starts being sent. Any changes made between creating and sending it will reflect on the message being sent. So if you change or remove your custom domain in that interim, the message will be sent with the updated settings.

If I clone a message containing txting.io, and modify my custom domain, will the links be updated with a new domain?

The custom domain is configured at the list level, so all messages from a list will share the same settings, including cloned messages. The cloned message will use the setting configured at the time the message is sent.

My domain is verified, but when I send a test message, I get a message from txting.io rather than my domain. Why?

  • A) you didn't set up the custom domain at the list level

  • B) your domain was valid at verification time but now it is broken

Who can set up a custom domain?

Both Owners and Admins can set up custom domains.

‘Your DNS records are not set up correctly. We are unable to verify your records. We will use the fallback domain for your messages’ message What does this message mean?

If you see this message, it means that your DNS failed. If you click on confirm send then we will fallback the link tracking domain to txting.io.

How long will it take to know when the DNS record valid is invalid before clicking send?

It may take up to 5 minutes for the system to notify you that the DNS records are invalid, at which point we will revert to txting.io (even if you did not see the message ‘Failed to verify DNS records for the custom domains at domain. We will fallback to txting.io as the domain for tracking links should you choose to continue.

Where can I make changes to your DNS record?

Wherever you have registered or currently manage your domain names, you can update your DNS records. Not all domain registration services, however, allow you to edit all DNS records. If you are unable to update the records listed above, contact your DNS provider for assistance.

The process of adding records to your DNS is determined by the domain provider you use. The following are links to documentation for commonly used providers:
